Exploring Cannabis:
The Edible Way

Cannabis infused edibles are the most innovative, enticing, and enjoyable ways to consume cannabis.

So, it’s no wonder consumers are eating up the smokeless alternative for its long-lasting, potent effects.

Of course, it’s natural to be curious and have questions before you begin your own edible exploration.

That’s why we’ve compiled a collection of FAQs to peruse, and don’t be a stranger – send us a message if you have any of your own!

Beginners, listen up! This is the most important answer to know to achieve the pleasant experience you’re seeking. Edible effects can take anywhere from 30 minutes - 2 hours to fully kick in. Why? Because that’s how long it takes your body to metabolize the edible and the cannabis extract it contains.

It’s also important to note that how fast the edible effects kick in will also vary based on a few unique and individual characteristics. Such as weight, what you’ve eaten that day, overall metabolism and tolerance, and other physiological traits. So, never take anyone’s word for onset effect time, as your experience will be unique to YOU.

Last but not least, edibles that are consumed “sublingually” or sucked on (think hard candies or lollipops) will have effects that kick in faster - within anywhere from 15 - 45 minutes. That’s because the extract is absorbed through the sublingual artery under your tongue and directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the liver.

First and foremost, inhaling cannabis offers immediate effects that last for a shorter period of time (45 minutes - 2 hours-ish) while ingesting cannabis offers effects that take longer to kick in but last longer. But most importantly, expect edible effects to feel much stronger or potent - even for veteran consumers.

That delay in effects comes from the body metabolizing the cannabis compounds, which is also what lends edibles more potent strength. Upon digestion, THC is converted to a molecular form, 11-hydroxy-THC. In comparison to delta-9 THC (what you’ll find in cannabis flower and vapes), 11-hydroxy-THC is more readily able to cross the blood-brain barrier, hence its heightened potency.

Say it with us (and the rest of the industry) - go low and slow with your beginning edible dosages! As we mentioned, edible effects will vary from person to person and even from edible to edible.
That’s why it’s always recommended to begin with a low dosage and increase until you’ve reached your desired comfort level. In general, 2.5 - 5 MG is a good starting point or is most recommended for beginners.

Not to sound like a broken record, but (again), everyone will respond to edible effects individually. Even more, the higher the dose, the higher the effects will be and the longer they will last. In general, THC levels tend to peak around 2-3 hours after ingestion, on average. As for duration, they can last anywhere between 4-8 hours, while some may feel effects even up to 12-24 hours after ingesting.

We recommend journaling your dose, what you ate that day, and how you felt, to find that sweet spot of effect strength x duration that works best for you.
